The main objective of this study is to provide a physical understanding of the process of compaction at low and medium pressures in order to improve rationally and systematically the current compaction operations in terms of the optimal selection of bulk and surface particle properties and processing conditions.

Rutgers University offers an excellent environment to conduct the proposed investigation. Several groups are currently working in powder related issues such as granulation, mixing and blending all within a coherent and collaborative effort in the Pharmaceutical Engineering Program (Rutgers) and Particle Pro- cessing Center (Rutgers–NJIT).
