2019 Winter Meeting Materials
The technical session at the winter meeting is devoted to reviewing project, renewal, and review proposals. The comments about each proposal will be summarized and provided to each PI, and they will be invited to submit a revised proposal for consideration at the AGM.
At the 2018 annual general meeting, we agreed to solicit proposals for six projects:
- Crystal structure transformations in milling
- Mechanism of powder layer formation on process surfaces
- Model-assisted design of granular products
- Precision powder feeding
- Simplified industrial formulations of colloidal dispersions
- Systems engineering approach to dry milling with grinding aids
We will receive at least two proposals for each project except the systems engineering project (which we sent only to Arno Kwade).
In addition, five reviews were commissioned:
- Coating of fine particles - Andreas Buck, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg
- Measurement and quantification of fines in the presence of large particles - Keld Alstrup Jensen, National Research Centre for the Working Environment, Copenhagen
- Confronting the dry system grand challenge - Vanessa Magnanimo, University of Twente
- Tribology, friction, and contact mechanics in Wet Systems
- Systems engineering gap analysis - Paul Mort
The tribology review has not yet been placed. Keld Jensen requested to submit his review in 2020 (specific date to be determined). The others should be operating on a normal schedule.
We also have two renewal proposals to consider:
- Andrew Bayly - spray drying (renewing after a fourth unfunded year)
- Zoltan Nagy - model based control of crystallization
Finally, we should receive final drafts of reviews that we commissioned in 2017. These will also be attached if they arrive before the winter meeting.
Proposals will be added to this page as they are received. They will be collected into a single PDF in early December; this file will be updated as additional submissions are received. If you are attending the winter meeting, please be prepared to discuss them. If you will not attend, please send Jim Michaels your comments before the winter meeting.
